St Albans Cathedral Flower Festival

Created by internationally renowned floral designer Amie Bone, the festival is expected to attract more than 18,500 visitors and will form a major part of celebrations marking 150 years since St Albans was granted city status.

Rather than a traditional flower festival, The Martyrs’ Garden will lead visitors on a journey through the Cathedral inspired by the story of Saint Alban, Britain’s first saint. Large-scale floral installations will respond to the Cathedral’s architecture and heritage, guiding visitors from the vast Norman nave through a series of changing spaces before arriving at the Shrine of Saint Alban and the Lady Chapel.

Each installation will be designed specifically for the Cathedral, using flowers, colour and natural forms to create moments of wonder, reflection and discovery throughout the building.

Each area of the Cathedral will form part of a wider narrative, from the soft, light-filled Nave to the vibrant and immersive Crossing, culminating in a powerful moment of reflection at the Shrine of Saint Alban and a final sanctuary-like garden in the Lady Chapel.

Rather than a traditional flower festival, the experience is designed to be cinematic, contemplative, and deeply atmospheric, inviting visitors to move, pause, and reflect as they follow the journey.
