Galloway was founded in 1965, to provide school group travel to the continent by coach. Initially coaches were hired from operators throughout the country until 1978 when Galloway bought the established coach operating business of A F Braybrooke & Son, based in Mendlesham. The business was renamed Galloway European Coachlines Ltd with its operational base being primarily to provide for the coaching requirements of its own tours.
Following a number of local acquisitions, including Bickers of Coddenham in 1983 and Rex Service Station at Thorndon in 1990, and a management buy-out in 1997, expansion continued into extended tours, private hire and contracts. Steadily the fleet expanded, outgrowing the original premises in the centre of Mendlesham's village, and new premises were developed at Denters Hill on the outskirts of the same village to accommodate the larger fleet. This remains the Head Office, vehicle maintenance facility and main depot.
In 2012, Galloway purchased Chenery Live, the day excursion, concert and live events provider from R W Chenery extending the product range into new areas and expanding the client base in to Norfolk. Then in 2015, Galloway celebrated 50 years of organising coach holidays to the continent. A lot has changed but one thing remains - our commitment to delivering a quality experience. Whether you're booking a fortnight's holiday overseas or travel and tickets to a show, we aim to provide you with excellent service, a comfortable journey and plenty of memories to share.
2017 saw Galloway win the Coach Tourism Innovation of the Year title at the 2017 British Coach Tourism Awards for work with London media agency AKA in launching a coach branded to promote the School of Rock musical.
Galloway School Tours were nominated at the 2018 School Travel Awards for Best School Tour Operator. The award, voted for by schools, recognises reliability, creativity, due diligence and of course safety, just some of the things teachers expect from School Tour Operators.
Two long-standing shareholders retired in 2019 with two new shareholders joining Galloway. With a background in transport and business development respectively, the new shareholders are looking to the future and the growth of this long-standing East Anglian business.
The company services operations for National Express from East Anglia into the London area. Many of the coaches are also available for private hire. Galloway Travel Group are one of the region's leading coach operators with vehicles with 49 seat executive coaches, fully equipped with washroom, drink facilities and many other features. From the moment a customer enquires - either via the web, telephone or our head office in Mendlesham - to the time they meet a member of the smartly uniformed and experienced driving team, all Galloway staff are dedicated to ensuring the very best standard of service.
