Discover the fascinating smuggling heritage and stunning coastal scenery of Devon and Cornwall on this five-day break, combining picturesque seaside towns, historic landmarks and a taste of Devon’s artisan rum.

Based at the Copthorne Hotel Plymouth, this enjoyable tour begins with a visit to the beautiful seaside town of Salcombe, where you can explore golden beaches, browse local boutiques and enjoy the coastal atmosphere.

The smugglers’ theme continues with an exclusive Devon Rum Co. Tasting Experience. Enjoy a signature rum cocktail before discovering the story behind Devon Rum Co. and the wider world of rum. The experience includes a behind-the-scenes look at the production process and a tutored tasting of four award-winning artisan rums, with the opportunity to explore the Rum Store and Cocktail Bar.

There is also a free day to discover historic Plymouth at your own pace. Take a stroll along the famous Hoe, explore the Barbican Steps or browse the city-centre shops.

Your final excursion takes you across Bodmin Moor to the legendary Jamaica Inn, closely associated with author Daphne du Maurier and home to a fascinating museum of smuggling artefacts. Continue to the dramatic Tintagel Castle ruins before visiting the picturesque harbour at Port Isaac, famous as the setting for the television series Doc Martin.

With four nights’ dinner, bed and breakfast at the centrally located Copthorne Hotel Plymouth, this tour offers a memorable blend of coastal scenery, history, local culture and Devon’s unique smuggling heritage.

Day 1

Depart from your pick up point and travel down to Devon, arriving late afternoon at Copthorne Plymouth, where we are staying for 4 nights, with dinner, bed & breakfast. Plus tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival.

Day 2

This morning we make the journey into Salcombe, where we have the morning to explore the stunningly clear waters, golden beaches, and upscale coastal restaurants and local boutiques.
After lunch, we continue our smugglers theme and make our way to The Devon Rum Co. for a Tasting Experience, where we receive a signature rum cocktail before being guided through the story of Devon Rum Co. and the wider world of rum. The experience includes a short behind-the-scenes look at how these premium spirits are crafted on-site, followed by a tutored tasting of four award-winning artisan rums, where you learn to identify flavour profiles and discover perfect pairings. With access to the on-site Rum Store and Cocktail Bar, with a special discount available that day.

Day 3

The day is free for you to explore our base - the historic city of Plymouth. Take a stroll around the famous Hoe, visit the Barbican Steps and browse around the city centre shops.

Day 4

For our final outing, we drive to rugged Bodmin Moor and stop at Jamaica Inn with its Daphne Du Maurier associations and a museum filled with smuggling artefacts collected over many years.
From here we travel to the North Cornwall coast and Tintagel with its dramatic castle ruins. We’ll also visit the pretty harbour at Port Isaac, the setting for TV’s Doc Martin.
