A Suffolk Symphony

We start our day with a visit to the renowned site of Snape Maltings, home to the famous Concert Hall established by Benjamin Britten and opened by the late HM Queen Elizabeth II in the late 1960s. It is also home to a lovely range of galleries, independent shops and places to eat. Take the opportunity to purchase refreshments, or look around their shops, or perhaps take a walk near to the reed beds.

After our time at Snape Maltings we journey to Aldeburgh. Benjamin Britten used to live in Aldeburgh before he moved to a mile or so inland. The coastal town is famous for fish and chips and its charming pastel coloured houses along the sea. There will be time here to purchase lunch.

Suitably refreshed our final visit of the day is to travel that mile or so inland to Britten’s house called The Red House. Admission is included into the House, where Benjamin Britten and his partner, Peter Peers used to live, and see their home, their studio, garden and library.

Please note that due to restricted access down a narrow lane, coaches need to drop at the top of the lane leading to The Red House. There is a walk of approximately 250metres from the top of the lane to the Red House.
