East Anglia is often described as the bread basket of the country and this is a day with a difference that looks at farming in Essex from historic times to the present day, with an included tractor tour at Tiptree.
Book NowWe start with a visit to Cressing Temple, site of 13th century barns which were built by the Knights Templar and are among the oldest and largest wooden structures of their kind in Europe. They are also just some of the few remaining Templar buildings in England. There is a tea room on site for you to purchase refreshments if you choose, or perhaps you may be prefer to join our guide for a short familiarisation tour.
Our scenic tour then takes us through the Essex countryside landscape and the beautiful village of Coggeshall before we arrive at Tiptree and the home of Wilkins and Sons or "Tiptree Jams". There is a museum on the site as well as shop, and we have included a 40 minute guided tractor tour of their fruit farms for you around the Tiptree Fruit Farms. During the tour you will see traditional methods combined with cutting edge new technologies in fruit farming. After your tour you will be seated in the Tiptree Tea Room "Tea Garden" under their marquee where you will be served a Tiptree Cream Tea with tea or coffee.
