Steam on the Kent Coast & Sussex Countryside

Steam on the Kent Coast & Sussex Countryside

This beautiful location is often described as the garden of England, and it’s not hard to see why.

Within its sea lined borders you’ll find fragrant landscapes of gentle hills, fertile farmland, cultivated country estates and fruit laden orchards. Highlights include a ride on ‘The World’s Smallest Public Railway’, and the famous Bluebell Railway. As well as a guided tour of Royal Tunbridge Wells, we include a visit to the Historic Dockyard at Chatham

  • Bluebell Railway

  • East Grinstead

Day 1

Morning collection from home and travel to the Historic Dockyard at Chatham. One of the most complete dockyards still surviving and flourishing today, it is now a superb visitor attraction with many aspects to explore and view. It is here many film and television productions have used the original settings, including the very popular ‘Call the Midwife’.

Day 2

Today’s excursion takes us first to the charming village of Pluckley, setting for TV’s ‘Darling Buds of May’. From here we continue south to the coast and the small resort of Hythe. We join ‘The World’s Smallest Public Railway’, the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch miniature railway for the journey to New Romney.

Day 3

This morning we visit the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells, with its elegant streets, Georgian buildings, famous Pantiles, a colonnaded shopping area and town centre. We enjoy a guided tour of the historic town and discover something of its 400 year history.

B, D

Day 4

After breakfast we take a leisurely drive to Sheffield Park and the famous Bluebell Railway. We enjoy a ride along the 11 mile route to East Grinstead. The medieval town has one of the longest runs of timber framed buildings in the country and the high street is well worth exploring.

B, D

Day 5

We head to Whitstable, one of the county's most picturesque towns and famed throughout Kent for its Oysters. Later we commence our return journey arriving back in East Anglia by late afternoon.
