A showcase of Icelands sheer, unspoilt natural beauty, this epic circumnavigation of one of the worlds most spectacular islands presents extraordinary wonders, landscapes and wildlife during time spent aboard and ashore.
DAY 1: Your Door to Door service will transfer you to the tour coach for our transfer to a hotel in the Durham / Northumberland area for an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast.
DAY 2: After a leisurely start, we continue to Edinburgh and the Port of Rosyth to embark Balmoral.
Highlights of the cruise include:
Cruising by Eyjafjallajökull, the 5,466ft-high active volcano which famously erupted in 2010, this notorious ice-capped natural wonder is simply breathtaking. Elliðaey Island, part of the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago, a collection of picturesque islands. Also, Elephant Rock, an incredible natural rock formation, said to have formed following the eruption of the Eldfell Volcano in the 1970s.
2 days to explore Reykjavik Icelands stunning coastal capital and cultural centre. It is also the worlds most northerly capital. The city combines colourful buildings, extraordinary design and some of the countrys most beautiful natural wonders. Located in southwest Iceland, Reykjavik is in easy reach of several must-see geological attractions. The iconic Golden Circle Trail includes the Blue Lagoon Spa, the Thingvellir National Park, the renowned Gullfoss Waterfall and the incredible Geysir hot springs.
Perched on the peninsular of the Westfjords is the pretty town of Ísafjörður. It has a natural harbour and is set against a backdrop of steep mountains and an arcing spit that extends out into the deep Skutulsfjörður.
Cruising by Hornstrandir, home to a huge number of migrating birds. Fulmars, guillemots, kittiwakes, puffins and razorbills are often seen perched on the rugged rocky ledges.
Drangaskörð a collection of dragon tail-like pinnacles rising from the sea and dominating the skyline of the breathtaking Westfjords.
Akureyri, a beautiful town best known for its spectacular landscapes, lush vegetation and diverse wildlife. The perfect destination for nature lovers, the waters surrounding the town are teaming with rare, native species such as humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and porpoises. Within reach on the tours are incredible natural wonders too, such as the Godafoss Waterfall of the Gods and Lake Myvatn.
Cruising Eyjafjörður. The magnificent Eyjafjörður is the longest fjord in Iceland. Situated at the edge of the Arctic Circle, the fjord lies on the migratory route of many species of whales and birds.
Pretty Hrisey Island is known as the Pearl of the Eyjafjordur. It is Icelands second largest island, yet only around 200 people live there in one tiny fishing village.
Cruising Grímsey, Icelands northernmost inhabited territory and located on the edge of the Arctic Circle, it is home to over a hundred people and over a million seabirds.
Cruising Skjalfandi Bay. With its imposing snowtopped Víknafjöll and Kinnarfjöll Mountains, glacier and freshwater rivers, crisp un-polluted air, Skjálfandi Bay would be magical even without its incredible wildlife. Time for spotting puffins, dolphins and whales in the calm cold waters.
The beautiful Borgarfjörður Eystri fjord in eastern Iceland is a European Destination of Excellence and renowned for its craggy shores, steep cliffs and the 1136-metre-high Dyrfjöll Mountains.
Nestled inbetween the beautiful Mount Strandartindur and Mount Bjolfur in the Eastfjords is picturesque Seyðisfjörður home to a unique collection of wonderfully preserved wooden structures. The valley above the town echoes to the sound of the 25 thundering waterfalls formed by the river Fjaroara as it cascades down to a lagoon at the head of the fjord.
Cruising by Dalatangi, Akurfell & Toarfjall - three incredible, snow-flecked, pyramid-shaped mountains situated on the stunning east coast. Nipukollur, a mighty 1,958ft-high peak close to the beautiful town of Neskaupstadur. Cruise the majestic Norðfjarðarhorn and Gerpirs towering cliff at the countrys easternmost point.
