Today we meet our walking guide at the hotel and head to Ellmau, where we ascend to the summit of the Hartkaiser Mountain (1,530m) by gondola lift. We follow the Rübezahl path which is approximately 1½km long and is lined with 22 carved wooden figures, all created by a local innkeeper with his chainsaw! At the traditional Rübezahl Alm Mountain Inn, (1,172m) popular with international celebrities, we enjoy a local speciality, a ‘Speckjause’ (smoked bacon snack). Finally we walk 20 minutes to the middle station and take the gondola back down the valley.B, D

After time for refreshments we visit Wildschönau Farmhouse Museum which contains over 1,200 local artefacts dating back to 1795. Later we enjoy a four course farewell dinner at the hotel.B, D
