Day 1

Following collection from home, drive to Cumbria and the Gilsland Hall Hotel for the four night stay with dinner, bed and breakfast with tea, coffee and biscuits served on arrival and daily hotel entertainment.


Day 2

Travel to Hexham for market day. Search for a bargain, wander the historic market town or perhaps visit one of its historical buildings, including Hexham Abbey or the Hexham Old Gaol Museum.

Later, journey through the Pennines to Killhope - The North-East Lead Mining Museum to experience the life and work of the lead mining families of the North Pennines.

Day 3

Follow Hadrian's Wall, passing the famous 'Sycamore Gap' to Chollerford and on through the countryside, around the scenic Derwent reservoir, arriving at Slaley Hall for a cream tea in the beautiful former Edwardian Mansion.

As far back as 1827, the historic village of Corbridge was rated as a shopper's paradise, a reputation it retains today. Take a wander along Corbridge's pretty high street with its plethora of small shops with their decorated fronts.

Day 4

Discover the historic border City of Carlisle, perhaps visit its historic sites including Carlisle Cathedral and castle.

After purchasing lunch, travel south to Penrith for a short break before heading into the Pennines, climbing the spectacular Hartside Pass, on the way to Alston, with its cobbled main street and 17th Century buildings. Enjoy a ride on the South Tynedale Railway, Britain's highest narrow-gauge line.

Day 5

Travel back to East Anglia where the door to door collection service will be waiting to return you home.

The Gilsland Hall Hotel

Set in 140 acres of woodland, The Gilsland Hall Hotel offers fantastic views across the Irthing Gorge, where the River Irthing separates the counties of Cumbria and Northumberland.
